i must say the daisies are a really cute idea..

or even the white gerbers..
http://pro.corbis.com/images/BXP38889.jp...
even white w/ some pink
http://images.inmagine.com/168nwm/brandx...
i love the idea w/ mainly white but w/ a splash of bright pink to go w/ that bright blue!
My bridesmaids are wearing cornflower blue from DB, any suggestion on flowers? I want simple, maybe dasies.?
I think daisies would look really good. Something like this (but without the jewel things):

Or some other suggestions:
http://www.mydreamwedding.ca/wp-content/...
Peonies always look elegant: http://www.mydreamwedding.ca/uploads/Ima...
or tulips: http://i.ivillage.com/relationships/wedd...
Reply:Your flowers need to really contrast against the color of the dresses - you pay so much for flowers that you want them to show during the ceremony and in the photos. Do your daisies but also add some bright yellow and purples.
Reply:I could see daisies. What about blue irises? They are a beautiful vibrant blue color with a splash of yellow in the center. It is a cheaper flower that can be added to any mix of flowers for some color. I've added a link so you can view examples.

Reply:Yellow and White daisies would look nice against the blue. But make sure it works with your color scheme though!
Reply:white roses

I would say that you should get something with an empire waistline, which will be flattering, and something that won't be binding across the stomach. Something with a full skirt (but not too full) will also be good because it won't be uncomfortable for her. You may have to get it tailored to fit her, though, because what fits across her stomach may be too large in the shoulders.

Has anybody ever have their bridesmaids wear a dress the color cornflower blue?
i would like to see some wedding pictures of this dress. we picked out mori lee style 870 and color cornflower blue satin dress. when we went to the store to match the color to the vest for the guys the sales associate matched us with periwinkle vest and tie and to us that looked more of a purple. my fiance picked out powder blue vest and tie. do you think that the powder blue would go better. you may view the dress at www.morilee.com click on bridesmaids enter style 870 and click on the color cornflower.our wedding is april 7, 2007. the groomsmen are wearing a white tux.
Has anybody ever have their bridesmaids wear a dress the color cornflower blue?
I used the cornflower blue for my January wedding.Powder blue would be close but not match and cornflower would not look that hot paired with periwinkle either. Actually cornflower is really light shade of blue and to pair it with something lighter would not look right.Cornflower actually matches with darker shades of blue like royal blue or even navy blue. These colors give it contrast and depth. I saw the effect of the cornflower and royal blue at my wedding and i was blown away. The girls looked great.
To see what cornflower really looks like, go to a fabric store and look it up.
Reply:That 's a very pretty bridesmaid's dress, and I love the colors cornflower blue and periwinkle. However, periwinkle would be more purple than cornflower. I think the powder blue vests would look better. They don't have to match exactly to the bridesmaids dresses, but the more purple color wouldn't look as good. Congrats on your upcoming nuptials.
Reply:Cornflower is quite a popular color. Would probably be best to stay away from any other blues though. See if you can find a complimentary color that is pleasing to you both instead.
Reply:i like that colour!! i went to the site and looked at that colour, and it's very pretty!! i think it would look better wither with a darker blue, or with the powder blue. perriwinkle is a combination of lavender and blue, so it will look odd.
Reply:yes it was awful

Has any one ever added water to cornflower?
why does cornflower go solid if you squeeze it and then trickle throught your hand when you relax???
Has any one ever added water to cornflower?
It is a thixotropic substance, which has a shear rate-dependent viscosity. Do a Google search on thixotropic to find out more information. There is a link below, too.
Reply:Cornstarch mixed with water in the right proportions is called "oobleck". It's a shear-thickening material, or dilatant. Shear-thickening means that the more shear force is applied, such as squeezing or pressing on it, the viscosity of the material increases.
Reply:This is a strange property called "thixotropy" where the viscosity of a material changes according to the pressure applied. When you squeeze, the water is trapped between the cornflour grains and the grains form a semi-solid.
Science can be really fun. I love playing with the stuff.

What color flowers with chocolate brown and cornflower blue?
The bridesmaids chose their dress and colors... chocolate brown with cornflower blue trim and sash. And my dress is "diamond white" (or ivory/ off white). So... any suggestions on colors (or types) for the flowers? (Bouquets, corsages, centerpieces, etc.?) I'm also using chocolate brown tablecloths with blue/brown/ivory striped runners for the reception, and the ceremony is in a church with mostly "buff" colors and wood accents. THANKS!
What color flowers with chocolate brown and cornflower blue?
For your bouquet, I would go with ivory roses, and cornflower blue accent flowers. The the chocolate brown could be incorporated with some dried filler and/or ribbon. Depending on what style your dress is, make sure the bouquet complements it. An elaborate gown should be paired with a simple bouquet, like a hand or arm over a cascading or teardop. A more simple gown could be paired with the bigger bouquets.
The the bridesmaids could go with the blue flower as the main, and accent with the ivory roses, brown filler, and ribbons.
The groom should defiantly have the ivory in his boutonniere and the blue accent flower.
Maybe dyed blue roses for the groomsmen. Or the ivory without any accent. They should be smaller than the grooms boutonniere.
Mother corsages, your mom could have one color and
his mom could have the other in the roses so that they stand out. Coordinate the fathers to their spouses. The accent color is up to you whether or not you would want the mother's corsages and father's boutonnieres to have one or more flowers. The more flowers you add, the bigger they get.
For centerpieces, try alternating each table. Once with ivory and blue accents, the next with blue and ivory accents. Keep the brown filler for the centerpieces.
Blue flowers:
Anemone
Cornflower
Delphinium
Eryngium-blue thistle
Eustoma-Lisianthus
Hyacinth
Hydrangea
Iris
Misty Limonium
Monkshood
Muscari
Scabiosa
Trachelium
Veronica
Reply:I would go with burnt orange and a dark red color for flowers. those colors will look good with chocolate and cornflower blue. good luck
Reply:Chocolate Brown and Blue are becoming very popular. Your florist will be able to tell you which flowers he/she can dye to match. Also, check out www.theknot.com for great pictures of arrangements, bouquets, etc.
Reply:You can use yellows with brown and cornflower blue...Or use soft pinks...
Reply:Cornflower blue is a very purple blue, and combined with the chocolate brown, will give you a very deep and interesting wedding party! But matching this however, without clashing is going to be tough.
Your best option is to stick with a white/ivory/beige range. My suggestion, is that the bridesmaids carry small bougets of ivory or white roses. (you could even try a plain lilly), and decorate the altar, and benched with the same flowers.
For your bouquet, I'd say to have an arangement of deep brown leaves/accents, (not alot, and I couldnt name something in particular, but I'm sure your florist will know something tastefull) and then mostly the cornflower blue (dyed flowers), lilly's, lavendar, and baby's breath may work.
For the centerpieces, go with white or ivory flowers, and maybe some glass with blue marbles or candles. With such a dark table cloth, you dont want to drown out the runner with something dark.
Orange and brown, and orange and blue work fine on thier own, but adding oranges, pinks, and yellows can be visually unsettling, and well it simply doesnt match. I like the person above me, who suggested deep maroons, or even eggplant purples. Or royal navy blue, depending which part of the cornflower blue you want to accentuate.
But those are just my opinions. Your the Bride, do what ever you think works, it's your wedding, and your design. Good luck and I hope it looks beautifull!
Reply:Oranges, russets, yellows, (maybe) deep reds/maroons, or (maybe) deeper lavenders.

What effect does adding a small cornflower mix (2 teaspoons +water) have on the taste of a dish like spagetti?
Please help settle a small domestic. I cannot see how using a tiny cornflower mix to thicken the sauce at the end of the cooking process has any effect on taste. However my beloved is convinced I have ruined her creation. Help - I know I am right.
What effect does adding a small cornflower mix (2 teaspoons +water) have on the taste of a dish like spagetti?
I am with you on this, i don't believe it makes any difference to the taste, and is a well known thickener of many sauces!!! :-)
Reply:It really doesn't ruin the taste of the sauce, but is a good thickener. A lot of people are very picky and protective of their home made sauces, some might view your thickener as an insult. Try cornstarch and water next time. No flavor change at all
Reply:I think your right,I use cornflour all the time in my gravy and sauces and it makes no difference to the taste what so ever.
Reply:Oh, you are Wicked! Spaghetti sauce that has been allowed to cook long enough should never, ever need to be thickened. By adding the water to it, you essentially diluted the sauce. You may also have ruined the texture of the sauce, which also can affect the way the sauce tastes, believe it or not.
It's okay to to thicken sauces in this manner when they already rely on cornflower (cornstarch) as a thickener, such as gravy, but it would be best to use broth to do this so you don't weaken the taste.
If I were you, I would go out and buy flowers for my beloved. And wine! Now, go forth and sin no more!!!
Reply:Spaghetti sauce does not usually have cornflower in it. it has vegetables, tomatoes and meat and it is simmered until it thickens - some people put sweet potatoe in it which will boil down and thicken but the best is a sauce that thickens naturally. You have not ruined it but you have changed the texture.
Reply:I can't see what effect it would have on the taste. However, I usually use a vegetable OXO cube, which makes it just a little bit richer. Mind you, adding things to another cook's creation is a good way to get "slotted" with a paring knife! :-)
Reply:don't tell me corn flour has no taste, taste it plain it is really really bad. What you mean to say is corn flour has no taste when you cook it out. If you added it and cooked it for even a min more you would be safe.
Reply:There is nothing at all wrong with this method of thickening a sauce. Make sure you simmer the sauce for a few minutes as to cook out the taste of the cornflour. The only difference in using this method instead of a traditional roux is, the sauce will have a brighter sheen to it. Remember to finish the sauce with butter to give it extra richness!!!
Reply:It will have little or no effect on the taste. Cornflower has no taste, it is a thickening agent. You use it to thicken a gravy or other liquid. Custard is made from cornflower.
Reply:Cornflower would give spagetti a Spring look.
Now Cornflourwith spagetti...that sounds ok if you want to plaster the wall lol
Reply:cornflower is basically a thickening agent and has very little taste so it wouldn't affect the taste
Reply:Cornflour has very minimal taste....that is the beauty of it. It can thicken, and you can add sweet or savoury to it to give it taste.
There must be SOME taste there but barely detectable.
There is an Elizebethan rhyme:
Everything hath savour
Though some very small
Nay...a box on the ear
Hath no smell at all
Reply:It has no effect if it is properly cooked. So don't add it just at the end. If its not cooked it tastes bad.
Reply:Cornflower is usually used to THICKEN a sauce...
Reply:This fine white flour is made from maize and is known as cornstarch in America. Its main use is as a thickening agent and due to its fine texture it is less likely to form in lumps than ordinary flour. Another advantage that cornflour has over plain flour as a thickening agent is that it is flavourless so can be used to thicken delicately flavoured dishes. When cornflour is added to a liquid it will take on a cloudy appearance - so it is best not to use cornflour to thicken clear sauces or soups. Arrowroot can be used to thicken clear liquids where a translucent finish is required.
Uses: To thicken stews, casseroles, soups and sweet and savoury sauces.
To prepare: Cornflour should be blended with a little cold water before adding to any liquid. Blend 1 tsp cornflour with 2 tbsp of water to a smooth paste, and add to the dish off the heat. Return to the heat, stirring all the time until it thickens. Add more cornflour paste until the required thickness is reached.
To store: Keep in a cool, dry, dark place for up to 1 year.
Reply:Cornflour is tastless so I am sure you have not ruined her creation, just thickened it a little!!

Why has my cornflower died?
i bought a potted cornflower with beautiful blue flowers, got it home and put it in a bigger container, and now about a week later it looks dead. Anyone know why? The soil is damp but not waterlogged.
Why has my cornflower died?
I hate to say it but you are loving it to death. Corn flowers are drought tolerant and need very little water. Also, if you live in a particularly hot or humid area then your cornflower will suffer. I suspect that it is too much water though. Here is a site all about the cornflower.
http://www.floridagardener.com/misc/Corn...
Hope is helps.
Reply:I thought cornflowers were supposed to dry up and were saved in dry floral arrangements. That is the only way I have ever seen a cornflower.
Good Luck
Reply:I agree with Spytfr ... these flowers are drought tolerant so you'll want to water them rather infrequently. As long as the plant is not waterlogged, give it a little more time, though. It can take a couple of weeks for the roots to get firmly established after transplanting.
If indeed it is dead though, if you kept the receipt, you'll want to return it to the retailer and ask for a replacement. Once in a while the plant itself may be diseased or too weak to survive transplanting.
Here are some more options if it's dead:

Thicken scouse with cornflower?
ive been told to use cornflower to thicken up my scouse as it is a bit watery how do i use the cornflower?
Thicken scouse with cornflower?
You need to add the cornstarch to water first, stir and then add it to your sauce.
Get about 1/8 cup water to about 1 level tablespoon cornstarch.
That should do the trick.
If you do not use the water, it is likely that little lumps will form in whatever it is you're making.
Reply:sprinkle it in ☺
Reply:Sprinkle a little over the top and mix it in. Then save some for me, it's ages since I had scouse. mmmmmm scouse
Reply:Put a little of the cornflour in a cup or basin add a little water to make it slightly runny and then add it to the gravy.
The first time I ever ate Scouse was in the Liverpool Catholic Cathedral cafe, it was totally fabulous. I had to ask the Chef for his recipe, which he kindly gave me and his gravy was not watery, but was very liquid and he didn't thicken it in any way.
I have since cooked this on many occasions and have tried thickening it but it just doesn't seem to work, let it be runny you can always crush down one or two of the potatoes into the liquid.
So thank you Liverpool for allowing a Londoner to constantly enjoy such a wonderful dish
Reply:Cornflour needs to be mixed with cold water first .How much cornflour you use will depend on how much scouse you are making.Try a tablespoon of cornflour and 2 tablespoons of water at a time. Add a little of the hot liquid to the cold mix stirring quickly and then add that mix to the rest stirring all the time and bring gently to the boil.Keep stirring otherwise it will go lumpy. If it isn't thick enough repeat until you are happy with it.
Reply:Don't bother with cornflour, just add bisto granules at the end and stir well. This will also allow you to thicken it as much or as little as you want
Reply:Mix in a small container the cornflour with a little water or cool liquid from the scouse , when well mixed add to the scouse heat to simmer and stir well for FIVE minutes ....If colour too light add a half teaspoon of gravy browning(which will appear darker after simmering) There are some granules sold for Instant thickening , Instant Thickening Granules (170g) about 75p
Reply:use instant mash much tastier
Reply:Hi. I would not use cornflour. Depending on how thin the liquid is, if it is really runny and has a translucent consistency, you will have to use alot. Cornflour will thicken it, however it takes ages to cook the taste of it out. If you add it at the end of cooking, it will give your scouse a nasty 'floury' texture that sticks in your mouth.
Two methods I would recommend are to either add gravy granules in a suitable flavour or to bring the mixture to a rolling boil at the end of cooking, leaving the lid off so steam escapes, and reduce the fluid amount this way.
Reply:Always mix it with a little water, or it will just go lumpy, stir it in little by little and keep stirring until it is smooth.. You could always use arrowroot, too, the difference is, with cornflower you get a slightly cloudy finish and with arrowroot it is very clear.. You can use arrowroot to make glazes for fruit flans and stuff like that..
PS just mix a little at a time, if it isn't thick enough just mix a little more.... remember, you can always add, but if it is too thick and you add more water, you will dilute the flavour..

As for your flowers, cornflowers are nice; a florist could get them for you, although they are summer flowers. There are gold Gerbera daisies and also blue larkspur or delphinium. Oh, I almost forgot: bouquets of daffodils are absolutely breathtaking.

What color shoes go with a cornflower blue dress? Silver or dyable?
This is for a wedding in the bahamas!! I'm so not good with color matching. I'm also having trouble matching the dress (Cornflower blue by Jim Helm) to a Vest color for the guys... Mens Wearhouse has no exact matches.. so not sure what to go with. Help Help!!
What color shoes go with a cornflower blue dress? Silver or dyable?
I'm not so sure. If u showed me pics it would be easier, but i think silver so far.
Reply:i think silver
Reply:I wouldn't wear the same exact color dress and shoes, looks too matchy old lady most of the time. If it's casual you could get a pair of tan colored leather sandals or fabric sandals.
Silver sounds ok, also a muted gold color could look nice.

No Cornflower?
I have a flower that looks like a cornflower but it's bigger and it is purple(lilac). It is about 1.5' high and the flower is about 4" wide and is shaped like a ball. When it was growing it looked like a tulip (before it bloomed). Any suggestions?
No Cornflower?
I'll give it a try...

Cornflower blue and lemon yellow wedding?
Im getting married Jully 2009. Although it is a summer wedding we are getting married inside. Our wedding site is www.celebrationsweddings.com. I really like the color blue. and I really like the idea of lemon yellow. I was thinking about making centerpieces out of lemons b/c lemons always remind me of summer. A few people have suggested that cornflower blue would look better than a tiffany blue color blue with the yellow. Do you think cornflower blue and lemon yellow would like nice together? Anyone find any pictures online that would help me? ANy advice and suggestions would be great. Thank You
Cornflower blue and lemon yellow wedding?
i think it sounds cute and country. very summer like. and if it matches your personality then it's perfect!
Reply:I think that would be lovely. AND if you would like more of a visual, you can go to the Alfred Angelo website and view the bridesmaid dresses. You can click and changed their colors and they have many dress options that you can order with two colors. I'm using Alfred Angelo for my wedding because it's so easy to customize the bridesmaid colors! Hope this helps!
AND I think the idea of using lemons as centerpieces is a GREAT idea and it will be less expensive than flowers AND smell AMAZING!!
